My Favorite Christmas Song

If not my favorite, it is tied for favorite Christmas song. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a version with all of the verses on youtube, so, this will have to do.  I did, however, paste the lyrics of the other verses underneath the video.

The lyrics are just incredible. The promises of God were fulfilled… Matthew 1:23.  I cannot imagine living back then to experience that joy.  And yet, now, we can rejoice because Emmanuel HAS come!  We can see the full picture.  How awesome! REJOICE!

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice, rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, O come, Thou Lord of Might,
Who to Thy tribes, on Sinai’s height,
In ancient times didst give the law,
In cloud, and majesty, and awe. [Refrain ]

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan’s tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save
And give them victory o’er the grave. [Refrain]

O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death’s dark shadows put to flight. [Refrain]

O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery. [Refrain]

O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things, far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go. [Refrain]

O come, Desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind;
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease,
And be Thyself our King of peace. [Refrain]

    Nice song. I don’t know if this counts as a Christmas song or a pre-Christmas song. Since I grew up catholic we always had the “advent” season and they played this song every week. It got old… but I still appreciate it. Incredible lyrics!

    Also my favorite Christmas song. I was looking at all the Youtube versions of it last week. The Boyz II Men one was my 2nd favorite.

    Phillips, Craig and Dean sing my favorite version, but theirs is nowhere to be found online.

    This sound of this song reminds me of sleep, but the lyrics remind us of so much more. I think it would be pretty high on my list of Christmas favorites.

    That’s an amazing song and a great choice.

    Andrew Peterson has a whole Christmas album where the first half are all songs — some originals and some old and famous — about waiting on the Messaiah to come.

    There is a song called ‘So Long Moses’ about the history of Israel waiting on a king…

    Highly recommended…
